Why Learning This New Game Will Make Your Party Unforgettable

Have you ever been to a boring party? Of course, you have. You probably had big expectations, wanted to meet someone new and spend a great time with your friends. Instead, you ended up standing in the corner, holding your glass of beer and calculating when could be an appropriate time to leave.

How it’s different

We have all been there and certainly wouldn’t want that to happen in our party. That’s why this OFC is a great party game. Although, at one time only up to 4 players can play, it is incredibly fun for spectators, as well. Not to mention that OFC is played in 5-10 minute rounds which means that up to 48 people could try it in a single hour. So, if the party lasts for 3-5 hours, open face poker tournament is a viable option.
Open Face Chinese poker is not a new game but one that only recently has broken through into the United States.

The great thing about this particular game is that it is related to Pai Gow Poker and, really, other variants of poker. So, for anyone who knows Stud poker, Hold’em, Omaha, 5 Card Draw or similar games, learning OFC should be easy.

Rules

Different from most poker games, in OFC you must make 3 best hands in each round. You have 3 cards to make a front hand, and 5 cards each for the middle and back hands. However, a thing to note here is that the front hand cannot be stronger than the middle hand as well as the middle hand cannot beat the back hand.

Points

Following the clockwise action, players must put together their strongest hands without fouling. In a single round, players score one point from other players whenever their line (front, middle or back) can beat the opponent’s.  If the front hand can beat the middle, or it could beat the back hand, the player’s hand is forfeited with a 6-point deduction.

Important distinction between open face poker and other variants is that players can play for different stakes. So, in a party setting, beginners can play for beans while experienced players pay each other real money.

These are the basic rules of Open Face poker, but you could go more in-depth. Who knows, with this game being so flexible in a few years we could see it rival even Monopoly.
